Poopin was released in the summer of 2008 as the Atomic Lipstick third album. Brisbane duo Synthia Pop and Cyndii Valentine managed to put the album together while they were studying in Japan. I don’t know how they do it. Known as the wild girls from the wrong side of town the girls racked it up again with eleven banging tunes that will go down massively with the crowds.

As usual the tracks are not for the squeamish which is why we love them! Tracks like Itchy Balls, Teen Mum and Rape me hit home in the way only the Toxic Lipstick girls know how to do. This elctro Punk will be more fuel for the fire for their fans and detractors alike. I think the girls get as much pleasure from the naysayers as they do the fans. I guess that comes down to how the musicians are off stage. Do they live the Punk lifestyle or is it all a marketing exercise? Did the Pistols live the life? Absolutely, and to the max. Does that make them tragic or heroes. Probably both but that’s what we want from our rock stars. Oh, oh, there’s that problem again. Because the public expect and want it and punks live up to the stereo type does that make the movement less valid. I don’t think so. I think the intent of the music and the lyrics is at the heart of it. The Pistols lyrics were hard hitting and struck into the soul of a generation, the lyrics were real. Now Punk lyrics don’t have to hit home to a whole generation in fact the opposite is true. They are meant to speak to a minority, the minority that feel disenfranchised with society, the people who feel marginalised and those who want to be marginalised. Punk is not meant for the soccer star or the home coming queen. It’s meant for the dorks, geeks, the people who don’t fit in. Thats the essence of punk, if everyone gets it, it’s not punk. Period. Toxic Lipstick is an affront to most people, so it’s punk. These girls live the life, they embody the Punk movement.

If it becomes popular as it did in the 70′s it quickly dies and becomes something else as people use it commercially which in turn smashes Punk. Then Punk goes back underground often more extreme than before and the cycle starts again. They try to kill it but they can’t. Great artists are heavily influenced by Punk, guys like Paul Weller were inspired by the sound. When Weller was his best is when he too was fuelled by anger and had some Punk vibes and sounds running through his music with The Jam. I know this will be heretic talk to many Punk fan’s but it’s true.
